Must one still keep it cold? Originally posted by ketchepillar What are the rules regarding this for homebrew in cornies? Commercial or homebrew should be stored cold if possible. Always store cold if possible. Especially if you tapped it already.
Great question Dave. I was very interested to read the responses. I got lucky. I have one regulator and one tank. The gas in beer is CO2, it's actually a by product of the fermentation process. When you buy a keg it should only have CO2 in it. As such the keg does not go flat. If you tap it with a true system using CO2 as the gas then you should be able to tap and re-tap the keg as you wish, since you are not introducing a foreign gas.
When you tap the keg with a hand pump you are pumping in O2, or oxygen. The mixture of O2 and CO2 is what causes a keg to go flat. So if you tap it with a hand pump, then your keg is probably good for a day or so.
I have a 3 tap keg-o-rator and a 2 tap jockey box. I leave my kegs tapped for weeks with no noticeable degradation of the beer although I'm sure it's happening. I also use my jockey box and tap kegs, then un-tap them and re-tap them days later and the keg is still good. Sorry for the long explanation, but that's my understanding and the physics behind why the two methods provide different results.

First step is getting one or several very strong people to help move it over to the kegerator, if it's not already there. There are two tabs on the keg that will line up with the two grooves on the coupler. When inserting the coupler into the top of the keg, line up the grooves and twist clockwise to lock the coupler in place.
Once the coupler is in place, pull the handle on the coupler away from the center of the keg and push down to the closed position. Back to home. Crafty Technology. Membership Experience. Draft beer does not give you a hangover, headache, or any kind of sickness.

At beer pressures, a keg cannot explode. It's designed to take much more pressure - rated to around psi. It's a sealed pressurized vessel - so it could explode or implode. It's just not normal for beer to rapidly reach the pressure required to cause an explosion or for outside pressure to cause an implosion. Open the faucet and pump the handle times while pouring until the flow returns to a normal rate.
You should only pump the keg while the faucet is open. Pumping the keg before pouring could create too much pressure and cause the beer to pour foamy and too fast.
